After students
have determined which colleges they wish to apply to,
|
|
|
|
• Check to make sure requirements regarding SAT I, SAT II, or ACT are met. •
Obtain complete applications. Make an extra copy for a rough draft.
Check on any option for applying on-line.
|
|
The completed application,
check (with student's social security number listed), essay, resume, activity
sheet, etc. should be mailed directly to the college by the student. Make sure
that all components are in place; including required signatures. Applications
should be mailed a minimum of two weeks before the college deadline date.
At the same time, obtain a transcript release form from your Guidance Counselor.
Completely fill out the release form with the name and address of the college/institution
to which you are applying. If you are under 18, you must have the form signed
by a parent/guardian. If your college application package has a "Counselor's
Recommendation" form or "Secondary School Report" form, please
complete the student information section and include this report with the completed
transcript release form. Your Guidance Counselor will mail a copy of your transcript,
your first quarter/first semester grades, Stonington's school profile, letter
of recommendation, copy of SAT scores, and any additional teacher recommendations
to the appropriate college. This procedure should be completed a minimum of
two weeks prior to the deadline. The above procedure is also required for scholarship
applications.
Remember that many colleges, as well as the NCAA Clearinghouse require that
an official SAT score report be sent by The College Board. Although a copy may
be sent from the Guidance Office, this does not replace the official score report.
Note that many colleges require a separate financial aid application. Most colleges
require the completion of the FAFSA form, many require the CSS PROFILE, and
many also have their own institutional financial aid form. Please check with
each individual college to which you are applying.
